Study Guide

The D.P.M.S. begins the winter semester of each academic year.

The course lasts 3 semesters

In order to obtain the Diploma of Graduate Studies (M.S.), a successful examination in all eight (8) courses of the study program, four (4) in the first and four in the second semester, and the successful preparation of the postgraduate thesis for the accumulation of 90 credits (ECTS). Each teaching semester (A and B) includes 13 teaching weeks.

The educational process of each course includes one or more of the following formats: 

  • theoretical or classroom teaching
  • seminars
  • tutorials, practical and laboratory exercises
  • long distance education 
  • assignment of work preparation individually or in groups  
  • educational visits and field trips and 
  • preparation of a diploma thesis.

1st Semester of Studies

In the first academic semester, the following courses are taught: A1- Cultural Heritage, Legal Framework and Economy, A2 - New Technologies in Culture, A3 - Management of Cultural Heritage and A4 - Digital Recording, Documentation and Imaging of Monuments.

2nd Semester of Studies

In the second academic semester, he following courses are taught: B1 - Cultural Marketing and Public Relations, B2 - Digital Resources are taught B3 - Digital Applications of Museology and the Museums of the Future, B4 - Cultural Heritage, Development and Environment.

3rd Semester of Studies

In the third academic semester, the students are conducting the research for their master thesis. After the successful completion and examination of at least ¾ of all the courses of the two semesters, the student has the right to submit an application for the assignment of a Master Diploma Thesis.

The courses

1st Semester

Cultural Heritage, Legal Framework and Economy

The course offers an introduction to the concept of cultural heritage and the parameters that define the framework for protection, promotion and management of cultural heritage at national, European and international level. In addition, it introduces basic concepts of economic theory and analyzes the sources of financing investments in the field of cultural heritage.

New Technologies in Culture

The course presents new technologies used in the analysis, conservation and management of cultural heritage. Students understand the contribution of digitization to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage using a variety of means, such as the scanning of objects, monuments and outdoor spaces, the development of 3D models, applications, etc.

Cultural Heritage Management

The course introduces students to the basic concepts and theories related to the administration of cultural organizations and the environment of cultural management, integrated administrative systems and decision-making mechanisms.

Digital Recording, Documentation and Imaging of Monuments

The course aims to the acquaintance of students with the application of advanced technologies in the recording, rescue, documentation and presentation of cultural monuments.

2nd Semester

Cultural Marketing and Public Relations

The course aims to the understanding of the basic principles and applications of marketing and public relations, with an emphasis on the promotion of cultural heritage by leveraging new technologies.

Digital Resources

The course aims to familiarize students with concepts such as online repositories, digital libraries, metadata, management and organization of digital content, web development, management of multiple point cloud data (point cloud registration) and open access systems.

Digital Applications of Museology and the Museums of the Future

The course aims to familiarize with the transformations of the role of museums in modern societies. Students come into contact with modern applications and technologies that enable them to design real products for the museums of the future.

Cultural Heritage, Development and Environment

The course examines the interface points of Cultural Heritage, the Environment and Development, through the lens of Sustainable Development, analyzing the relevant issues.

3rd Semester

Diploma Theses

Theses are original research endeavors, focused on thorough theoretical research and practical application. The program has developed partnerships with institutions and companies, so that the diplomatic work has a direct connection with the labor market.
